  5. Wish you best of luck in your new venture. When studying in 1st Ll.B., my friend asked me if i had applied for a job as a clerk in F.C.I. When i said, “No” he was baffled. Did i not want any job? When i said, i am already in service. He said, then why do you study at all? For promotion/better kanya? When i said, i am already serving in a nationalised bank, already promoted as an officer, am already married and have already a son, he just asked, “Then, why on earth do you need to study? Did i studies for better/speedier further promotion/s? I said,’No, nothing of the sort. I study only out of my penchant for study. He was surprised. I do not know your calling, but i am sure, your study will surely enhance your knowledge and confidence. Do advise me your calling after your examination.

  7. I am sure you will do well. It is commendable to take on such a daunting task to reincarnate youself in a formal student entity. Wehn an English play opens here on Broadway in New york City, common practice is to say “break a leg” meaning “good luck” to actors and musicians before they go on the stage, it reflects theatrical superstition dictates saying “good luck” actually is wishing bad luck.

No such problem in academia so I will go ahead and safely say best wishes and good luck in your examination.

  9. I think it is better to express your well wishes, even at the peril of over stating it, rather than not expressing it at all. My personal experience here in USA, among Indian immigrants for many decades, has been pretty dismal when it comes to being civil and expressing good wishes publicly. There is cultural issue here too. Gujarati, Marathi languages reflect lack of words due to cultural tradtion of not expressing emotions publicly as compared to western cultures and western languages. Phrases like I love you, have a nice day, you are welcome, have a nice weekend, see you tomorrow, nice meeting you, nice to see you, beg your pardon, excuse me, etc greetings are used often in social settings in English.
